    Student Leadership

The students and staff at McLeod School are excited about being a “Leader in Me” school which incorporates the 7 Habits Of Highly Successful People.  The 7 Habits were first introduced by Steven Covey to the business community, but have since been adopted by numerous schools worldwide.  Great Happens Here at McLeod School!  We are proud of the leadership, motivation, teamwork, and achievements that our students display.

    Habit 1 - Be Proactive - you’re in charge

Habit 2 - Begin with the End in Mind - have a plan

Habit 3 - Put First Things First - Work first, then play

    Habit 4 - Think Win-Win -  Everyone can win

Habit 5 - Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood - listen before you talk

Habit 6 - Synergize - together is better

    School Profile

McLeod School is located in a predominantly residential area in north-central Edmonton. Our multicultural student population consists of children from the communities of McLeod and Miller. Busing is provided for students in the Miller area. Early intervention strategies are used to identify students at risk or requiring more challenge, and students with special needs are included in regular classes with support.  Parent involvement in the school decision making process is encouraged. Parents are welcome to participate in our active school council or to volunteer their time during the school day. Volunteers from Steele Heights Baptist Church read with students on a weekly basis. School facilities are used Monday through Friday evenings by the community.

Principal's Message

McLeod School is a vibrant elementary school in north-east Edmonton. It is located in a beautiful community and has immediate access to several soccer fields, a great tobogganing hill and a large playground.

McLeod is a Leader in Me School.  Based on the book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People®, The Leader in Me is a whole-school transformation model that helps to improve performance of all our programs. The Leader in Me equips students with the self-confidence and skills they need to thrive as a 21st century learner.  Learning the 7 Habits helps our students develop many skills: leadership, accountability, initiative, creativity, goal-setting, cross-cultural skills, problem-solving, and effective communication.

McLeod School provides a safe and caring environment where students are encouraged to reach their potential. Children develop at different rates and learning occurs at different stages.  We are challenged to meet the needs of children regardless of their learning styles, capabilities and talents.  Teachers eagerly embrace research-based instructional strategies and engage every student at his or her level. Continual professional development ensures that teaching and learning are dynamic and up-to-date.

Parents are valued members of the school’s decision-making process and the community is highly supportive of the school. We appreciate volunteers from neighboring stakeholders, such as the weekly reading buddies from Steele Heights Baptist Church. This organization also provides before and after school care.

The school is well equipped with Smartboards, document cameras, digital cameras, response clickers, and a wireless lab with chromebooks. Students are regularly using these devices and are well versed in applying technology to produce high quality products.

Students at the school have many leadership opportunities throughout the year. These encompass the Alberta Motor Association Patrollers, the Library Club, Announcers, Assembly Emcees, Door Monitors, Office Monitors and the Student Leadership Team.

The school is committed to shared leadership!  Each staff member, whether support or custodialDebbie Gawlik staff, teacher or administrator, works hard to provide the very best educational experiences for the students. McLeod School is proud to produce strong learners who are well capable of meeting any future challenges. Together with parents and community stakeholders, staff and students pursue excellence in learning.  We welcome any inquiries and visits to the school.
